Most commonly available choices for constructing a slab are RCC using a ready mix concrete, constructing slab using a standard mix concrete and constructing the same slab using pre-stressed concrete which can be post-tension or pretension out of which post tension is more common. Availability of so many options for deciding a slab makes it difficult to decide which type of slab to go for. This article is about Concrete slab cost comparison with PT slab cost. These spreadsheets will help users to do a quick preliminary analysis to decide which slab to go for.
Concrete slab cost comparison with PT slab cost
There is no significance difference in design of slab using ready mix concrete or a standard mix concrete. The only difference is in the way their total cost of material is calculated. However, In the case of the prestressed slab, the entire design procedure is different.
In this spreadsheet user will have to enter the specification of slab only once, and the rate of different materials. Then the slab will be designed in 8 ways. 3 RCC slabs using ReadyMix Concrete, 3 PT slab using 3 different specifications and 2 RCC slab using the standard mix.
Version 1.0 of Concrete slab cost comparison with PT slab cost spreadsheet
First spreadsheet (My Slab Design V1.0) prepared for calculating and comparing the cost of material required for construction of same slab using RCC ready mix and PT method can be downloaded by Clicking HERE
Version 2.0 of Concrete slab cost comparison with PT slab cost spreadsheet
Since There was some error in Version 1.0 which have now been eliminated and cost of material required for constructing slab using a standard mix of concrete and it’s design was also added.
So, Updated second version 2.0 (My Slab Design V2.0) can be downloaded by clicking HERE
Version 3.0 of Concrete slab cost comparison with PT slab cost spreadsheet
In both the previous versions design of PT slab was not much detailed which is now made more detailed and closer to actual design procedure and the unit of rate of strands/tendons were also changed from (per strand per meter) to (per metric ton) which is now closer to actual market designations.
Latest updated version 3.0 (My Slab Design V3.0) containing default rate of material nearer to actual current local market rates can be downloaded be clicking HERE
Version 4.0 of Concrete slab cost comparison with PT slab cost spreadsheet
A few more improvement are done and latest updated version (My Slab Design V4.0) can be downloaded by clicking HERE. There is also another spreadsheet for easier usability can also be used. It can be download by clicking HERE. Both spreadsheets should be in the same folder with Macros Enabled for proper functioning.
Design methods used are as per Indian Standards latest IS 456 and IS 1343 till date. This spreadsheet can give a very close idea of the cost of material required for construction. It should be checked properly before using for designing purpose. As there are many test missing for PT slab and other consideration. They don’t effect the detailing under regular circumstance have not been used.
