DAILY DIARY SOFTWARE TRAINING

24th Dec 2015

Today was the first day of my software training as Intern in Research & Development Division of Manomav Engineers Pvt. Ltd. This training is a must for completion of B.Tech. Civil Engineering from Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College, Ludhiana.

The whole plan for the training was discussed and outline of the training program was prepared.

1st Assignment

1st Assignment given to me was about studying, understanding and analyzing the research related to ERP for Construction Industry.I started with some journals, research papers, magazines and online blogs and started exploring the topic.

25th Dec 2015

Today I started with a through the reading of research titled as “An Analysis of success and failure factors for ERP systems in engineering and construction firms” by Boo Young Chang, Ph.D. 2007. This was a pretty large research work of about 250 pages.
I studied it properly, analyzed it and wrote a summary of the same.

Today, My assignment was updated to the following:

  1. Research 10 Companies providing ERP for the construction industry in India.
  2. Prepare a SWOT analysis of each of the 10 software companies.
  3. Get the cost of implementing of each of the 10 software ERP companies.

So I begin with doing some research online about ERP companies.

On both these days, I was contacting different ERP firms through their Customer Care or Sales representative, various online reviews, blogs videos and web content available.

31st Dec 2015

After completions of all the research work and creating a document about ERP firm, I choose to analyze the 10 ERP companies/products.

  1. Microsoft Dynamics SL
  2. SAP Business All in One
  3. Sage MAS 100
  4. Penta Construction ERP
  5. Epicor
  6. Maestro
  7. QAD
  8. Vista by Viewpoint
  9. ERP for Construction Industry by EResource
  10. AccuERP by Accusol Technologies Private Limited

Then I created a document containing SWOT analysis of each of them.

1st Jan 2016

Point 3 in a previous assignment I was asked to get the cost of implementing those 10 ERP, Which depends on several factors like Size of the company in terms of employee and revenue. services required like Financial, CRM, HR or Project Management etc. So I asked for the same and again started working on it.

4th Jan 2016

I was working to get quote amount for the implementation of ERP for 100 Crore turnover company having 5-10 concurrently running sites ranging from Rs. 2 t0 20 crores each with the staff of about 30-40. Material Management and billing ERP was required with web or cloud based deployment.

So I contacted partners of all those 10 ERP firms and they taking a lot more time than expected.

5th Jan 2016

While contacting and discussing with ERP firms was taking a lot more time in waiting than expected meanwhile I started working on a spreadsheet for Making Abstract of Cost, Schedule, Analysis of Rates and Cost Justification for a Day to Day maintenance work including some Item of DSR-2014 and some Market Rate Items. With the help of a software “DBSoft 2014”.

6th Jan 2016

I created this Spreadsheet named as “All Complete V1.0” for assisting in the whole official processing of a Day to Day Maintenance Estimate.

7th Jan 2016

There were a few flaws and less number of Items analyzed for Justification sheet. So I started in the analysis of the rate of some more items and add them in the same excel sheet prepared.

8th Jan 2016

I was still working on adding some more items and their analysis to the spreadsheet and make it even more valuable and usable.

11th Jan 2016

I completed adding all the items necessary along with their analysis to the spreadsheet.

Spreadsheet named as “All Complete V2.0” for assisting in the whole official processing of a Day to Day Maintenance Estimate was finally ready and all the Information regarding the same has been published here on this blog post HERE.

12th Jan 2016

New work assigned was designing a structure for Economically Weaker Section (EWS) housing. A plan was given and It’s complete structural drawing was to be prepared using StaadPro V8i.

Despite given plan I tried to search for some more plans which may prove to be relatively cheaper even after having the same area and other essential features.

After that, we decide to work on a decided plan and work started.

13th Jan 2016

We designed the whole project in AutoCAD and by the end of the day, it was complete.

15th Jan 2016

After completing AutoCAD drawing of the plan and the various section we began with STAAD Pro V8i and prepared the complete model of the structure and specified various relevant parameters. Then analysis was done and a few warning arrived were taken into consideration and the structure was made error free.

18th Jan 2016

This day also we worked on designing of the structure using StaadPro V8i. After complete analysis and designing of structure AutoCAD for RCC detail of various component of building like columns, beam etc.

relevant files and information were published.

19th Jan 2016

The economy of Pre-stressed (Post Tension) slab was discussed with respect to RCC ready mix slab and RCC slab made from a standard mix, as this depends on various factors so It was decided to make a spreadsheet that can analyze, design and compare the economy of the slab by design it with available alternatives.

The market rate of different materials used in slab construction was explored in the local market.

20th Jan 2016

Today as well. Work on the spreadsheet was going on.

22th Jan, 2016

Analysis part of the slab was complete and RCC design portion was started.

RCC design of slab using ready mix concrete was complete and work on PT slab was started.

25th Jan 2016

RCC design using ready mix concrete and PT slab was complete and HERE it is.

27th Jan 2016

Discussion on the utility of spreadsheet created a day before was done and It was decided to add standard mix as well.

so work on next version began

28th Jan 2016

The cost of material required for constructing slab using the standard mix of concrete and it’s design was added and here is the link to relevant blog post.

It was observed that there is the need to do some changes in the design of PT slab.

1st Feb 2016

The design of PT slab was still being rectified.

2nd Feb, 2016

PT Slab design was complete and quotations regarding the rate of various material were to be obtained and corresponding changes were to be made.

3rd Feb 2016

Quotations from the market were obtained and completed and latest version 3.0 was upgraded. the relevant blog post is at the address mentioned below

Next work was about using hollow cast concrete block instead of brick masonry for economic consideration of structure.

4th Feb 2016

Research of comparison of hollow concrete blocks with brick masonry began and got completed more quickly than expected and down below is the link to relevant blog post.
